How Douglas Sonders Processes His “Beard Series”

Have you seen Douglas Sonders project “Beard Series”? Well here is how he processed his images….

This video walks you through the post production of his “Beard Series” and gives you some great insights into how to use some excellent Nik Software to create a beautiful high contract black and white image.

Interested in seeing some more of Douglas Sonders amazing work? Check out his blog HERE. If you’re interested in some of the plugins available from Nik,  which I would definitely recommend, you can check out their website  HERE.

Being retoucher, we often put aside the human contact to focus on the technique….

It’s not because you are a retoucher that you’ll never have to direct a photo shoot or assist a photographer… you never know what kind of contract you may get!

In order to develop all the sides of this Sublim career, our students will have to create a series of photographs for session 4, they’ll have to direct the photo shoot even if they’re not the photographer! Here an article that can help them… and you too!

24 hours to retouch 2000 images!!

Just a few days before the scheduled launch date, I realized something terrible: I had promised the entire world a site with at least 70,000 images from my collection, but we only had around 68,000 files online. Imagine launching a site with a massive headline on the landing page saying “70,000 royalty free images” and the users then proceeding to the search page and find that they are currently viewing “1-50 of 68,325 images”. Not good at all!

We only had a one day, but it had to be done. So we created a 24 hour challenge at our studio in Cape Town!  - Yuri Arcurs (founder of Peopleimages.com)

Any art student with a Mac can wipe out a zit. His success lies, rather, in his ability to marry technical prowess to an aesthetic sensibility: his clients are paying for his eye, and his mind, as much as for his hand

The New Yorker wrote about Pascal Dangin, one of the most (if not the most) popular retoucher in the high fashion industry!

For many, the first time you accidently open the pen stand (that shot glass looking thing that holds the pen) and see what looks like some sort of miniaturized torture chamber or old Celtic landmark, there is an initial “what the…” moment.  It is simply a portal to another dimension and you probably should not play with it.  No, really, what you have opened is a world of possibilities.
